Webmaster note: The Red Shrimp was originated by Walt Johnson in the 1950s. Dick Stewart and Farrow Allen note in their book, Flies for Steelhead, that during a streamside encounter on the upper Columbia, when Walt was on a trip with Ralph Wahl, a local angler introduced a cruder version which served as the inspiration.

The fly is similar in style to the beautiful speys originated by Sid Glasso.
