Cutthroat Spider

Name Cutthroat Spider
Category Sea-Run Cutthroat
Hook TMC 200RBL, Dai Riki 270 or similar, Size  6-8
Thread Black, Danville 6/0
Tail Well-marked brown teal or wideon flank

Hackle Sparse (No more than two turns) well-marked brown teal or widgeon

The pattern for this fly, designed by Preston Singletary came from the fine book by Les Johnson Fly-Fishing Coastal Cutthroat, Flies, Techniques, Conservation. In it, Preston Singletary writes that the fly is more of a style than a pattern. He uses alternate versions with different colors of materials. But, lest I reveal all that he says about the fly and how to fish it, I think it would be appropriate to direct your attention to the book.
