Jan Faltin Flies
My name is Jan Faltin. I started fly fishing for grayling, brown trout, and rainbow trout when I was about 20 years old while living in a small town in the north of Sweden called Pite. Later I moved to Gothenburg and that is where I started fly fishing for sea trout and salmon. It is then that I started to tie flies. Tying salmon and steelhead flies is not just an interesting hobby to me, it has become a lifestyle. I can't get enough of this, and the same with my fly fishing. I tie my flies to fish with but I love to fish with beautiful flies. I always try to make my flies better and better, and I like to try new materials. My next project will be to start with classic salmon tying but I will not fish with them.
Even though Swedish Fly tyer Jan Faltin is over 50, he doesn't look or act his age. When he talks of the enthusiasm he has for tying flies, he sounds like a youngster who just got started. But he has been tying for almost 30 years now and it shows in his work. His flies, have a touch of the classic, but with a fishy look and usefulness that is undeniable. At the same time they have a touch that is uniquely Jan Faltin. I asked Jan to introduce himself:
