This enticing version of the Kalama Special was tied by the late Scott Howell, one of the most prolific contributors to Salmonfly.Net. Although he varied some of the original materials, I could not help including it here for its exquisite proportions and artistry. Scotty was very talented. You can see many more of Scotty's flies on his page on this site Scotty Howell Flies.
Scotty's Notes: The Kalama Special was designed by Mooch Abrams of Portland OR. While it was intended as a fly for Cutthroats, renowned angler Mike Kennedy fished it extensively (and very successfully) for Steelhead on the famed Kalama river. This bright Northwest 'classic' is still an effective pattern for just about any water and light conditions.
